My Path in Veterinary Medicine

My journey in veterinary medicine began in 2002 when I worked as a Veterinary Assistant at a clinic in Portland, Oregon. This clinic, which provided a combination of General Practice, Urgent Care and Emergency Service, gave me the experience I needed to get into the Veterinary Technology Program at Portland Community College where I graduated with an AAS in 2006. Since then I have had experience in General Practice, Exotics, Oncology, Urgent Care, Emergency and Critical Care. In addition I volunteered at the Oregon Zoo for seven years where I was active in many programs including observing animals in public view ensuring their physical and emotional needs were being met. There were also a few times I had the opportunity to help out in the zoo hospital.

I am Certified in Recover ALS (advanced life support) CPR for cats and dogs, and completed training to become a Fear Free Certified Professional. As a Fear Free Certified Practitioner I am passionate about sharing what I have learned and being able to apply to my patient care  along with tools to help identify your pets Fear Anxiety Stress (FAS) levels. Understanding FAS aids in decreasing the stress levels for your pet in a multitude of environments including veterinary visits. I am also a strong supporter of the “Force Free” movement, which combined with Fear Free creates a mindful, non aversive approach to patient care.

I believe in a more personal approach when it comes to my patients - slowing down and taking time to assess their needs prior to moving forward with their treatments whether they are in my care for radiographs or a nail trim.  In addition, I see that there are so many resources in the community the animal guardians may not be aware of.  My vision is to put that all together by offering to come to your home and provide an array of services from basic grooming and medication administration to consulting for pets who are in need of palliative care and hospice services or helping coordinate care for animals that have medically complex issues. Paired with my Fear Free training, my services will help bring peace to you and your pet.
